Former South African Test and one-day international cricketer Jonty Rhodes said that AB de Villiers wanted to leave from Test cricket earlier but was persuaded by Cricket South Africa (CSA) to stay till 2016

Jonty is currently in India for a period with Tamil Nadu Premier League franchise Ruby Trichy Warriors as a mentor. He has always been frank about his vision on South African cricket. However, he shares a pleasant with De Villiers.

Talking to Cricbuzz, Jonty said “I think he wanted to retire a while back from Test cricket, but Cricket South Africa persuaded him to stay on. Before 2016, he was talking to people about his Test future. In South Africa, people are critical because they don’t see the IPL mechanism.”

Explained about playing against India, Jonty said “When we used to play against India, Mohammed Kaif and Yuvraj Singh were outstanding and Harbhajan Singh was probably the third best. Dhoni and Virat Kohli are physically strong. Fitness has certainly improved and so is the athletic ability.”

Jonty Rhodes

Comparing Virat Kohli with De Villiers and Rohit Sharma, he said “I have only seen skipper Kohli as part of Mumbai Indian’s coach on a couple of occasions. Rohit looks like a laid back guy. But he is like a duck on the water. All you see is the duck above.” He added, “From a captaincy perspective, de Villiers is just another nice guy. He hasn’t done anything different.”

It was not a traditional Wankhede wicket. 160 was probably around par, and tonight we were able to take wickets in the middle and keep the pressure on. Unadkat went wide of the crease and bowled a hard length.”

“Overall, it was a great game. The pitch was a little dry and was assisting the spinners. Our spinners did the job pretty well, you need to understand the pace you have to bowl at the Wankhede. We have been playing good cricket. We have to forget what happened tonight and move on. It was good to get some runs, but disappointing not to finish the match.”

Indian Premier League

Mumbai Indians (MI) the only team to beat in the Indian Premier League of season 10 by winning six out of seven matches. The MI is now on the top of the points table with excellent looks to qualify for the knockout stages.

Indian Premier League

Mitchell McClenaghan:

Mitchell is a New Zealand pace bowler who played for Mumbai Indians and finally made his attendance attaining good start against Delhi Daredevils, bits of intelligence defense of a practically non-defendable total. The left arm fast bowler stuff is strong as seen in the match and the Kiwi could be a very important cog for Mumbai Indians.

Jasprit Bumrah: Not only batting can always come good but it proves when a match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils. MIs needs bowling like Bumrah which will be a key factor for their team. He was a youngster player who was a little hesitant and inconsistent in the initial stages of the IPL season 10 and seems to be feet again.

Nitish Rana:

Nitish is a young Delhi batsman who has become the mainstay batsman for Mumbai Indians. His performances were very good with better technique and move towards when it comes to hitting the fast bowlers. His excellent performance will be very important for Mumbai Indians progress.

Imran Tahir:

Tahir is the South African leg-spinner who had started on a high but it seems a few hit in the recent matches. He is a good bowler who can turn the ball from long to the batsman.
