The 53-year-old former Indian all-rounder said that “You can ask anyone around – whether it’s cricket or a company. The CEO or the management want their own people. I don’t think there is a controversy. Everyone makes it a controversy. At the end of the day, if I’m coach, I would want people who I’m comfortable with. It’s as simple as that.”

Asked whether the BCCI handled the selection of the head coach in a proper manner, Singh said: “I’m in no position to answer that.” Singh doesn’t want to remark on Virat Kohli & Anil Kumble’s showdown. “I never ever comment on what’s done.”

Talking about IPL franchises are eagerly looking at the players from TNPL. “Everyone is looking at all forms of cricket. TNPL was a stunning example. The standard was pretty good. There were a lot of young guys who looked really confident.”

Singh further added, “From MI, there were about 7-8 guys who were being looked at during IPL last season. I would pass on whomsoever the player they are looking at for our franchise as well as other franchise. At the end of the day, it’s cricket. If a young guy is good and you can afford to give him an opportunity, why not?”

Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli

It’s about a week Indian coach Anil Kumble stop following ‘untenable differences” with Captain Virat Kohli but evidence continues to fall out of the closet.

It was a consideration that Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman was speaking with both Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli about their quarrel during the ICC Champions Trophy in England. But, TOI reported that CAC did not meet with Kumble only with Kohli.

According to the Time of India, a source reveals that “The CAC gave a patient hearing to Virat (Kohli) and concluded that since the problems weren’t substantial, and the team’s performance was good, there was no reason to remove Kumble. It didn’t even meet Kumble to ask him his side of the story because it felt he had done a good job since appointed by the CAC a year ago.”

“The CAC’s stand perhaps made Virat desperate, and he then sought a meeting with the BCCI officials after the CT final in London last Monday. Having conveyed its decision to the board, the CAC didn’t feel the need to attend this meeting, where only the BCCI officials – Amitabh Chaudhary (acting secretary), Rahul Johri (CEO) and MV Sridhar (GM, cricketer operations) – were present, apart from Kohli and Kumble.”

Sources said about the meeting, “In the 45-minute meeting, Kohli did most of the talking, making it clear that he had reservations about both Kumble’s style of functioning and him continuing as head coach.”

“It was nothing but pure humiliation for a man of his stature, and it wasn’t surprising that he didn’t even choose to serve out his ‘notice period’ and accompany the team to the West Indies for a short, limited overs tour. It’s clear that a few officials wanted Kumble to exit the scene.”

Virender Sehwag

The Indian cricket board’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is set to go through the list of applicants to find the new head coach of Indian men’s cricket team before they travel tour of West Indies.

Former Indian captain Ajit Wadekar feels fit to Virender Sehwag for the head coach of Indian men’s cricket team. Wadekar said in an interview to NDTV “If not Anil Kumble, then Virender Sehwag is the best option India can have. He has an attacking style approach towards the game and it will be good for India.”

Indian legendary leg-spinner Kumble stepped down as head coach of Indian men’s cricket team on Tuesday. After Kumble’s stepping down as head coach, The Board of Control for Cricket in India had announced for application to fill-up the post before the ICC Champions Trophy.

Before Kumble was a direct entry into the coach selection while the others who applied for the head coach post included Tom Moody, Virender Sehwag, Lalchand Rajput and Richard Pybus.

Virender Sehwag

Wadekar added, “I will still prefer Anil for this job. Let’s have a look at India’s performances in the past one year. The statistics itself give the answer. India’s domination in the past one year is commendable in Kumble’s reign. So, we must respect that. But, if you ask me as a Kumble’s successor, it should be Sehwag.”

Talking about leading India as coach between 1992 and 1996, Wadekar said, “When I was the coach of the Indian team, Anil Kumble was there. He was one of the nicest persons in the team. He was well educated, sincere and mad about his game. The only thing he focussed on – victory. I am amazed after his resignation.”

“I have seen Kumble sweating it out on a particular delivery during the net sessions. He wanted perfection in everything. Jumbo is a real gem. I really don’t understand why a captain like Virat Kohli has gone to such extent. Kumble is the best man to handle Team India right now.”

Virender Sehwag

The 76-year-old former captain-coached said “Greatness and modesty should go along. And, in Virat’s case, it is almost opposite. He should be feeling blessed to have Anil as a coach. If you are disciplined that doesn’t mean that you are not a good coach. I am sure Virat will realise soon what mistake he has made.”

Wadekar asked on Kohli saying that “I want to ask Kohli, how could he change his opinion in just one year? India were performing and giving positive results. Then why did he do this? It’s a complete sign of immaturity.”

“He has been leading the Indian side for a while now, such behaviour wasn’t expected from him. If you talk about India team, they should consider themselves losers. They have lost a gem like Kumble.”

Anil Kumble

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) including Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman has decided to keep Anil Kumble as head coach of India’s Team, says source to NDTV.

On Thursday night, the three-member panel met and it is learnt that trio, who had lead in Kumble in place of Ravi Shastri, are not too eager on replacing the leg-spinner. Save one office-bearer and the others are against setting an example where almost the Indian captain decides on who will be the coach of the side.

According to the reports, the BCCI said in a statement late night that “The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the BCCI met today and discussed the process with regard to the selection of the Head Coach of the Senior India Men team and it was decided by the CAC to revert to the BCCI, at an appropriate time.”

The news of skipper Virat Kohli’s alleged difference with Kumble has been making rounds for some time now. The BCCI invited applications for coach’s post and even a section of officials, who are anti-Kumble, convinced Virender Sehwag to apply for the post.

Anil Kumble

The BCCI official said “On one hand, team has had great performances under Kumble. If the team reaches semi-final or say final, the BCCI would cut a sorry figure if they are forced to replace Kumble. On the other hand, cricket teams are essentially run by captains. One needs to respect a captain’s viewpoint also. It’s a Catch-22 situation for CAC members.”

The scale of the problem according to BCCI insiders has been blown out of proportion, the source, “Virat has never come and told any BCCI official that he doesn’t want to work with Kumble. And moreover, if Kumble and Virat don’t get along, what is the guarantee that Viru (Sehwag) and Virat will be on the same page. Everyone in Indian cricketing circuit knows that Sehwag is also a no-nonsense person.”

Former Indian legendary leg-spinner and current Indian coach Anil Kumble went to the extent and helped of bowling left-arm spinners Cheteshwar Pujara to defeat the challenges posed with Australian spinner Steve O’Keefe in the upcoming Test series against Australia in Ranchi on 16th March.

Pujara has a strike with a gritty 92 in the second Test innings to set up a series-levelling victory for India in Bengaluru. In the first Test innings in Pune, he fell to Australia’s left-arm spinner O’Keefe and pace bowler Mitchell Starc.

For the upcoming third Test which will begin on 16th March in Ranchi, Pujara is working hard on his game following the Pune disaster and also Kumble help including fielding coach R Sridhar.

Australia’s spinners O’Keefe had established his bowling skill which Indian player unplayable in Pune, ending with career-best figures of 12 for 70.

According to his bid to reproduce what Indian player will be active against, coach Kumble went to the extent of his bowling left-arm spinners to Pujara in practice.

The 29-year-old India’s left-arm spinners Pujara said to ‘bcci.tv ahead of upcoming third Test at Ranchi. “As they have a left-arm spinner, Anil bhai was trying to replicate that, coming from corner of the crease and angling into the right hander and try to spin it from there.”

“So I was just trying to get used to that angles as well. Sridhar was coming in from over the stumps, banging in short and just taking the ball away. It was really useful especially Sridhar, he was really accurate,” said Pujara.

“Anil tried his best even though he is a right-arm bowler but he tried bowling left-arm spin and still was decent enough for practice.”

O’Keefe even managed to beat Pujara; the batsman said “Yes he did. He knew where to bowl, the ball pitched on the rough and I stepped out only to get beaten.

When asked about the tackle Starc, Pujara said: “Basically getting used to the angle which Starc uses when he comes over the wicket, he tries to take the ball away from the batsman.”

India’s recent all format coach Anil Kumble didn’t take any question on Ajinkya Rahane. Though Rahane was not in his best form in the last Test match. But before that, he has some plenty innings in the last few years.

Even in the last Bangladesh series, he was successfully scored a single fifty. But all we know Pune’s pitch was not like normal one.

The 46-years-old said, “There is no question of dropping Rahane. He has scored well. He has been extremely successful for the last couple of years. There is no question about that. Regarding the team composition, we still haven’t discussed on that. All 16 are available. Yes, it is unfortunate that Karun Nair missed out after he scored the triple hundred but that’s the way the composition of the team has been that we look to play five bowlers and it was unfortunate he came in as a replacement.”

Kumble thinks that the reason behind the Pune’s loss was the pitch effect. But the Chinnaswamy Stadium will be different from it.

Coach Kumble said at press conference, “It has always been a good batting surface. I am sure it will be a result wicket. We are hoping it will be a result wicket.”

“I don’t want to look back. As a coach, it is more important to look ahead. Yes, it was one of those games where things didn’t go our way, and you just need to move on. Another three Test matches are there in the series, and we are looking forward to that. We have had a fantastic home season. It is just one of those games where things didn’t go our way,” he said.

“More importantly for me as a coach is to look ahead and that’s exactly what we have been doing as a team that what has happened is done and dusted. You can’t worry too much about that. Australia played well. We didn’t play well on that surface, and it was challenging, but we didn’t adapt and every game you need to adapt, and that’s exactly what we are looking forward to,” he added.

On the five bowl theory, former Indian captain said, “No. I don’t think so. It all depends on what we believe is the right combination to win a Test match. If we believe that four bowlers are enough or five bowlers are needed, which four bowlers or which five bowlers all that depends on what we look at and our aim is to win every game.”

“We beat Sri Lanka, England, West Indies and against quality sides. We have won from difficult situations. We have adapted to various conditions and also various situations, and that’s what we did not do in the last game, and that’s why the result didn’t go our way. We keep looking forward to this game so that we can start on a winning note,” he added.
