The decision has been made since the contract of three-year with former Delhi Coach Gary Kristen was over. However, the management team of Delhi was not happy with their performance as the Daredevils finished up last season’s series with a poor result. The management team picked up Rahul Dravid appointed as Delhi Daredevils mentor.
The legendary batsman Rahul Dravid has been busy coaching India ‘A’ and U-19 India teams for a long time; and got back home just few weeks back from Bangladesh. As he needed some time to rest and spend with his family member, dravid was not really interested in coaching Delhi boys. He finally took over the job of mentoring the Delhi based franchise in the current IPL season.
“Along with the rest of the support stuff, I am fully aware of what this franchise means to its supporters and I look forward to working with a group of players that I believe have what it takes to succeed.” said the legendary right handed batsman.
On the other hand, the appointed coach Paddy Upton recently made pretty good impression on coaching led Sydney Thunder to victory in Big Bash League. Adding to the subject, he also trained Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League. Teaming up with Delhi, the former South Africa assistant coach expressed his pleasure.
“I relish the privilege to work again with Rahul and Zubin, and to have the opportunity to do so at a franchise like Delhi Daredevils,” said Upton.
As Dravid and Upton will be working together assisting the Daredevil boys alongside Zubin Bharucha (Technical Dirctor), Praveen Amre and Sridharam Sriram (Batting Coaches), and T.A. Sekhar (Bowling Consultant) in the 9th season of IPL; regardless, Dravid, Bharucha and Upton the three figure was in the core aspect of Rajasthan Royals.
The Jaipur based franchise has been suspended from IPL by the Lodha Committee for minimum of two seasons play. Since then, Dravid has been looking for new opportunity in IPL; though addressed of having good memories in Rajasthan Royals.
“I really enjoyed my time with Rajasthan Royals. I worked with some very good people there and I hold some fond memories of my life there. But I am excited to be working with Delhi.” said Dravid.
“I am now looking forward to building the same memories with Delhi Daredevils. I have always admired the way they have worked and I am looking forward to add to that group” he added.
