IPL 2017: Ben Stokes Does Not Put Pressure On Himself

Rising Pune Supergiants captain Steve Smith has said about delight at his teammate’s response to match situations so far in this tenth edition.

The Aussie cricketer said “For us it’s about getting to know each other for six or eight weeks, try to get the best out of each other and learn a bit about one another. We’ve got some really good characters in the shed there. It’s nice to be playing some good cricket at the same time.”

Smith said about the auction as an all-rounder is getting closer to 14.5 crores, “I had said before the auction to the guys, just do what you have to get him. We know he is a quality player. We paid a big amount to get him. He certainly earned his cash.”

He added, “He’s been hitting the ball really well. He’s been involved in some good partnership as well. We’re very happy with where he’s at and how he’s played.”

When asked how he handled guys like Stokes, Smith said, “We missed him in the last few games but guys stepped up and did a good job. You obviously tell him his role and how he’s going to fit into the team.”

“Ben has always said that he judges himself on how he plays and is not going to put any extra pressure on himself just because of a big price tag next to his name.”

Smith feels that all-rounder Stokes does not put pressure on himself, “All-rounders are so valuable in T20 cricket. Stokes is a perfect fit for our team. He’s done a terrific job for us and hopefully can continue to perform and gets us into the qualifiers and the final.”
